The Yargo Community Concert Band has been invited to audition to perform in Washington, DC in June 2009! There will be a Community Band Festival honoring John Pillip Sousa June 26-28.  We will be working hard over the next few weeks to prepare an audition tape to be considered for the festival, so wish us luck! This would be an awesome opportunity, and we hope we are able to attend.

We will be looking for sponsors and holding fundraisers to help defray the cost of the trip, so if you are interested, please Contact Us.

This letter was sent to Michelle Walker from Bill Copenhaver, the Mayor of Hoschton: (in response to our performance at the Summer's End Festival on September 22)

The City of Hoschton does appreciate greatly the performances by the saxophone ensemble and the orchestra at our Fall Festival last weekend.  I believe both were greatly enjoyed by everyone who heard the performances.  We do look forward to having other performances by the Yargo Community Band at other events in the City.

YCCB is excited to announce they will host their first concert in their new home, The Colleen O. Williams Theatre, on Saturday, September 29th at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased at the door on the night of the concert. The YCCB made its debut rehearsal on July 30th at the Colleen O. Williams Theater. Michelle Walker, co-founder and Secretary of the Board of Directors, expressed many thanks on behalf of the band to the City of Winder, Winder City Council, Mayor Buddy Ouzts, Reverend Beau Farr of St. Anthony’s Episcopal Church, Don Wildsmith - Cultural Arts Director for the City of Winder, as well as their many sponsors for their generous support. “Without their support, this community band would not be possible.”

Recently, the big band performed for the Barrow County Republican BBQ for the second year in a row. In addition, a 5:00 p.m. performance on September 22nd at the Summers End Festival in Hoschton is scheduled.

In addition, the YCCB Saxophone Choir continues to perform at events throughout the community.  From small dinners to larger celebrations, the Sax Choir is available to play!  The repertoire of the Choir is continually evolving and includes hymns, patriotic marches, show tunes, and other popular music. Scheduled performances include a 2:30 p.m. performance at Winder Rehab and Nursing Home, and a 3:00 p.m. performance at the Summers End Festival in Hoschton.

YCCB is always open to new members.  Visitors and musicians are encouraged to stop in during rehearsal which is held Mondays at 7:00 p.m. at the Colleen O. Williams Theater.  Please visit the website www.yargocommunityband.com for more information or contact Michelle at 678-227-3741.

Carolyn Potter and Wes Kilpatrick had an interview with WIMO 1300 AM Radio from 8-9 am! It went very well! They discussed a wide variety of things from music selection and our musicians to our budget, and how we raise funds. They were able to discuss in length our upcoming events, specifically our September 29th concert. The station would like us back on the air prior to the concert to help support ticket sales, so be listening to WIMO 1300 AM Radio for more details!
